Coming home from work on a winter’s evening to a cold house or waking up in the morning to find the furnace is not working is something that no one in Peachtree City wants to have to face. When this happens, the natural tendency is to immediately call a furnace repair service, but there are few quick checks you can easily make to confirm the problem is not something very simple to fix on your own.
Check the Power
Be sure to check there is power to your furnace. Sometimes, by accident or without thinking, switches can be turned off, or breakers may be shut off and not turned back on. This is often the case if someone was working in or around the furnace.
In some instances, a breaker can also be tripped. This may be a sign of a short in the system or in the wiring. Turn the breaker back into the on position and if it trips again, leave it off and call the furnace repair service.
If you have a gas furnace in your Peachtree City home, make sure the pilot light is on. If the pilot light is out or if you can smell gas in the area, turn the pilot light supply switch to the off position and leave the area to call a furnace repair service.
Check the Thermostat
There are many different types of thermostats in use today. These can range from smart systems to zone control and old fashioned types of units. Check to make sure the thermostat is set to the desired temperature on any type of system. Older systems may need a new battery if the display is not on or a low battery message is visible.
Make sure any programmable thermostats are correctly set and have not been mistakenly changed. If you have a smart thermostat that is remotely managed through an app, be sure changes have not been made that may be preventing the system from coming on.
If the furnace is running but not blowing warm air, or if there is only a small amount of warm air from the vents, call your furnace repair service and schedule an emergency repair call.
