Common Reasons for AC Repairs in Chicago

It is always a bother when the AC goes out and it always seems to happen during the hottest week of the year. If you are dealing with a bum AC unit and are waiting for repairs, you may find yourself wondering why this happened. While every case is unique, there are some general things that can cause problems with AC units that need repairs. Here are some of the most common reasons for AC failures in Chicago:

Coolant Troubles- When there is an issue with the coolant, such as the wrong type being used or a leak in the cooling system, the AC unit will not cool like it should.

Hoses and Lines- Even the smallest hole in the hoses and lines of the unit can cause problems with the coolant, overheating, and a decrease in the cooling power and effectiveness of the unit.

Electrical Issues- AC systems run on electricity, so if something happens to the lines, the unit won’t work. We commonly see power lines cut by homeowners digging too close to the line or from mice and squirrels chewing the wires.

Cleaning Needed – It is important to clean the unit, both the outside unit and the inside unit. If this is not done on a regular basis it can create problems that could lead to system failure.

Thermostat Problems- The thermostat inside the home is the brain of the cooling system and tells the unit when to turn on and off, so when the thermostat is bad the unit cannot work like it should.

Lack of Maintenance- Putting off maintenance and small repair work is only asking for trouble down the road and is the biggest problem we at Deljo Heating see on a regular basis. Like us on our facebook page.
