4 Things to Know Before You Book a Car Rental in Costa Rica

by | Oct 24, 2016 | Transportation and Logistics

Renting a car is often the most convenient way to go around. Regardless of whether you’re in town for leisure or business, there’s something to be said for getting a reliable and speedy means of transport. If you aren’t careful, though, you could end up paying for a ton of charges. Read on to find out several things you should know about before you book a car rental in Costa Rica:

Fuel charges are high

Most rentals have a ‘get it full and return it full’ policy when it comes to fuel. If you return the car with less than a full tank, you’re going to incur charges. Avoid those charges by simply setting aside enough time to top up at one of the many gas stations on the way to the airport or rental service.

Returning it late can cost you

If you don’t want to find you or you and your travel buddies paying for a late charge, then make sure you return the car on time. That way, you won’t have to worry about anymore charges.

Your insurance coverage might be enough

Before you pay for any insurance charges on that car rental in Costa Rica, check out your policy first. If you’ve got a good one, you might not have to shell out for extra insurance any longer. Read your policy chapter and verse to be sure.

There might be age limits

USA Today says some rental companies set a maximum age rate, often starting at 70 years old. This means they won’t rent to you, even when you’ve booked ahead. Yes, you can certainly look for other rentals but doing so at the last minute, in the airport, means you’ll get stuck with a pricey rate. To make sure this doesn’t happen, call up the rental company and ask about the age limit to know whether you’re covered or if you need to book elsewhere.
